1200 Hundred Pairs Of Shoes Stolen

Mourners who were attending funerals at temples, funeral homes in South Korea left their shoes outside, as is their custom.

A second hand shoe dealer who lived locally stole 1200 pairs of designer shoes from funeral homes, hospitals and temples across Seoul. Police lined all the shoes up and were hoping to return them to their respective owners.

What he had been doing was to pretend to be a mourner and remove his cheap shoes as a mark of respect and then walk away in another designer pair.

It seems he finally put his foot in it when police watched him use the trick to steal three pairs of shoes worth £1120 and followed him to reveal his haul.

I apologise for this story before I tell it, but I really couldn't help myself. I have laughed since I heard it.

Two very wealthy ladies were spending the weekend in Las Vegas. (You know the type: loads of money and not even half a brain between them). They paid a visit to the ladies' bathroom and within a few minutes, one of the ladies called to the other, 'Hey, Kimberley, you got any paper in there?' Kimberley said that she couldn't find any.

A minute later the voice called again from within the stall, 'Hey, Kimberley,are there are paper towels by the washstands out there?' Kimberley said she couldn't see any.

A hand appeared beneath the stall door, waving a $20 bill, 'Okay, Kimberley, have you got two tens for a twenty?'

Billy The Goat Is Under Arrest

German police in Bremen, have arrested a billy goat and locked him up in a police cell after he was found standing in the middle of a road crossing and disrupting traffic. Car drivers had reported the incident.

When the police arrived, Billy the goat took off at high speed and apparently several patrol cars had to be brought in as the goat tried all ways to avoid capture. The report of the arrest included the words ‘smells bad.’

The search continues to find his owner.

Twitterring and Facebooking at the Altar

English newspaper The Sun newspaper reports that a couple stood at the altar after being declared ‘husband and wife’ and the groom took his mobile phone from his pocket.

The attending friends and family were asked to wait for just a minute while he updated his Facebook status. Apparently he had also announced that he had just married his bride on Twitter too.

The minister laughed as he was apparently in on the joke too.

US Santas are demanding swine flu shots. A group representing Father Christmases in the US is pushing for all Father Christmases to me immunised.

The Amalgamated Order of Real Bearded Santas held a seminar and decided that this was essential, not just to protect Santa but to prevent the virus being passed on to the public.

At present AORBS advises that all Santas use hand sanitizers and take extra vitamins to boost resistance to the virus and that parents keep sick children away.

Are you one of those people who just like to stick with what’s familiar, or are you curious and excited to find out about things you didn’t know, or hadn’t seen before?

My guess, given that you are even on this particular blog to start with, is that you enjoy reading about and looking at things that are out of the ordinary. I don’t know about you, but I get tired of articles about vitamin supplements, car insurance and the credit crunch. Bring on something a bit more interesting and let’s get away from counting pennies and fighting off the next round of swine ‘flu’.

Brush Up Your French With The Gummibears

I couldn't resist this one. The Gummibears always bring a smile to my face. Those orange Y-fronts are fabulous.

I wonder how many languages this song has been translated into. I came across Dutch, Japanese, Swedish and German. I wonder why. Perhaps the word 'gummi' has another meaning in French, so it had to be changed.

It's strange because this French version starts off with 'Je m'appelle Funny Bear,' instead of 'Gummibear'.

My Dog Ate Art: An Impressive Portfolio

Right from the beginning, Steve at 'My Dog Ate Art' has fascinated me with his paintings. I guess that I would describe him a 'semi abstract sometimes' kind of painter if I had to choose a category, but what I like most of all is his use of colour. Sorry Steve if you don't agree!

There is some quite experimental work on Steve's blog too. Take a look at his ink print and acrylic on paper and my own favourite, 'City Limits' which is show above (with the permission of the artist, of course.)

You will find some dark portraits, figures, and a range of ideas and styles. Don't forget to look at the 'Buckland Fern' painting, it is fabulous.

I have a habit of wandering around the internet in search of things to distract me from work and I do sometimes come across sites that really take my interest. This watercolour gallery is one of them.

I came across Don's Watercolour Gallery purely by chance. There are five sections to the gallery and it is simple to navigate. There is a section of landscapes from Northern England and Scotland, Old Places, Beaches and Seascapes, Birds and Animals and a miscellaneous section.

My own personal favourites are 'Stormy Sunday' which is shown above and Dunstanburgh Castle on the Northumberland coast.

There is a thumbnail of each painting beside its listing and if you click on that you can see a larger version.

This is a lovely collection of original water colours and certainly worth a look.

Smart Lasers Track Contours And Follow Maze

This software appears to enable a laser beam to follow contours and to make sounds. The whole thing is totally mind blowing.

At the end of the video where the beam was negotiating the maze, I was totally amazed.

Here we have the start of the development of smart laser scanning. Put it with the the technique demonstrated in my previous post, and it is possible to envisage some really exciting possibilities.

Imagine what surgeons would be able to do with equipment that could do these things. The possibility of more advanced and precise laser surgery has to be there just waiting to be developed.

Zero emissions is excellent and our planet would soon be so much cleaner if this was taken up in a big way. Imagine the savings on fuel costs, but I do wonder if these savings would be passed on to the consumer.

National Geographic has its own satellite street maps, courtesy of Bing.

I used it to get a bird's own view of my own city in England and I was really impressed.

It was crystal clear and very easy to navigate, simply put the town or city name in the search box, followed by the country and it appears very fast.

The 3D videos here are fantastic. Another place to waste time when I'm supposed to be working!

Pigeons Trained As Art Critics

Scientists in Japan have trained a group of pigeons to act as art critics.

They showed them computer images of 'good' and 'bad' art as categorised by 12 adults, including an art teacher, and rewarded them with food for choosing correctly.

What a strange thing to spend money researching!

In my opinion, if a flock of pigeons can learn the rules of good art and put them into practise as art critics, then it takes the creativity and the personal preference out of the whole thing.

It means that you can paint a fabulous picture but if it doesn't fit the rules it will be classified as 'bad art'. I wonder what else we will learn to do by numbers.

Let's Party In The Boogie Bus

Now you can ‘go in style’ anywhere across central Scotland. If you want to look really cool on hen nights, stag nights, or even for school proms, you can opt for limo hire and get noticed.

The fleet is made up of Hummers and Party Buses in a great selection of colours. All the chauffeurs are properly vetted and licensed, so you know that standards of safety are the highest.

My own choice would be the boogie bus. This has a dance floor, pole, dance cages, disco lights, smoke machine and even laser strobes. It’s great for dancing your hire time away. This is really something different, and I am planning on a pink Hummer plus a stripper for a friends 50^th birthday.

The Italian Caffe Restaurant is the first enoteca restaurant Glasgow has had. It offers fine wine and mangiare al forno, which is food straight from the oven. All this is available right in the heart of the Merchant City.

A virtual trip around the caffe reveals a light, airy, modern, but comfortable atmosphere and photos in the online gallery show the wide, welcoming front, comfortable furnishings and colour scheme. You can take a look around before you visit by using these options on the website. It is certainly somewhere I will be visiting next time I’m in Glasgow.

I also liked the fact that I could inspect the menu at this italian restaurant and even the prices on line. No nasty shocks here as it’s all there for you to see before you even leave home.

The enoteca originated from the taverns of classical Rome, where the Romans would stop for a while to meet with their friends and enjoy a glass, or two, of wine. So, although this is Glasgow’s first enoteca merchant city restaurant, it is a very old, classical idea.

There’s a new idea from Panasonic, according to Japanese news reports. Bejewelled earphones are to be offered, with women in mind. The phones are called Moon Jewels.

These come in twelve different colours to represent the signs of the zodiac and are designed not to interfere with earrings.

These will be available in Japan from July 7th, and the manufacturers are hoping that they will start a new trend, but at more than $39 plus shipping, I think I could live without them.

The internet is full of strange things and it is certainly a minefield for the gullible. I found this very strange machine for sale on a web site.

Apparently it increases your IQ quickly. All you have to do is to pay $244 plus shipping and you can be a genius in no time. The cosmic machine does this for you (or so they say.) I wonder what IQ level you would need to have to be taken in by this to start with?

No! I'm not selling this, or even advocating that you try it. Personally, I think it is very funny, but since I haven't tried it out, I'm only assuming that it doesn't work. If anyone has empirical proof, I'd really love to hear about it.

Have you ever taken an IQ test, or compared yourself to Einstein, or Bill Gates? Maybe they used this machine to boost their brain power, but somehow I doubt it.

Internet Criminals Are Out There Waiting For You

Criminals lurk in unexpected places, all over the internet. The person who offers you an opportunity that sounds good, or wants to be your friend because he/she admires your work may not be seeking a friend but trying to gather personal information on you. In fact he/she may not even have looked at your work, so don't be flattered until you check it out.

This doesn't mean that everyone out there has a hidden motive, but it is wise to be careful, especially if that 'friend' starts asking too many questions. I had personal experience of this a few years ago. I used to use a messaging system called ICQ and I had a few good friends there. Then a new person called Paul joined in.

My sister used the system too and one evening we realised that Paul knew things about us that he had no way of knowing unless he had somehow accessed our private conversations.

It turned out that Paul had been hacking our computers. He was stupid enough to provide copies of conversations he had followed and to show off what he thought was a very clever thing to do. We threatened legal action but knew there was little we could do except make sure that everyone knew about him.

Fortunately no important details seemed to have been stolen and we both changed our passwords and other security details on anything that was at all sensitive and advised anyone who had been in contact with him to do the same.

The point here is that it is not always obvious who these people are, and everyone should be wary of giving personal information out, until unless they are 100% sure who they are giving it too.

Paul was just a show off who thought he was clever, but it could have been much worse. It leaves a very unconfortable feeling behind too.

5 Reasons Why I Think I'm Strange

I've always been strange and I must admit that being different to other people used to worry me a bit when I was younger. I didn't like sports when I was at school and preferred to read books. This labelled me as strange from the beginning.

However, as the years went on I started to enjoy being strange and having people look at me. Don't get me wrong, I'm not 'exhibitionist' type strange. It's more like knowing I'm different and being pleased that people notice it.

To be honest, I really can't see how reading about my strange behaviour can be of interest to anyone. However, if anyone reads this and thinks I would make a good participant in 'Grumpy Old Women', or a similar comedy show, please let me know. Terms are flexible.

I suppose this in itself makes me strange. So, there are two reasons before I even get started.

Thirdly, um....thirdly...I hate curry, Indian food, Chinese food and Kebabs. I like to eat my food on a plate, laid out in a tidy fashion so that I can see what I'm eating. Mixing it all up, or plastering it with sauce is not for me and I must have a proper knife and fork. Those plastic things are horrible. I suppose I'm strange about what I eat.

Fourthly, I don't really care what people say, or think about me anymore. I have recently decided to do my own thing in my own way. It has taken me half a life time to arrive at this point and there are those out there who say (usually behind my back) 'she's gone a bit strange you know!' It's fun being strange and different. It gives me something to think about. I love a good plot and a scheme. This is clearly illustrated in my favourite poem: 'When I Am Old and Start To Wear Purple' by Jenny Joseph.

The other thing that makes me strange is that I prefer my own company and I often get odd looks because I would rather be on my own than with people I don't like. I'm not really antisocial, it just amuses me to see how it affects people who try to get me to join in and can't understand when I won't. I guess I'm some strange kind of social misfit.

So, those are some of the reasons why I think I'm strange and I expect that those who know me would add a whole lot more.

Are you a good kisser? There are many different kinds of kisses and they are all really easy to learn. Everyone likes something different, practice whatever takes your fancy from our list.

1. Earlobe kissing. This is very simple. All you have to do is to gently kiss the earlobe. Do this softly and carefully.

2. Hot and cold kisses. Kiss your partners lips to make them warm, then blow gently on them to cool them down. This is a very sensual experience and can become very passionate.

3. Just before touching lips, touch your partner's lip with your tongue. Do this gently and discreetly or your partner will think she/he is being attacked by a giant lizard.

4. While kissing, suck on your partner's lower lip. Don't do this too hard, or you may ruin the moment.

5. Neck nibbles. Gently nibble up and down your partner's neck, ending with a kiss on the lips.

6. Kiss open mouthed and gently breathe in as though you are sharing air with your.

7. Wet your lips with your tongue before kissing. This makes it easier to move your lips over your partner's.

8. Candy swap. This one is great fun. Give your partner a peppermint and put a fruit flavored candy into your own mouth. Kiss and swap flavors.

9. Angel kiss. This is a gentle and soothing kind of kiss. It's a "kiss it better" kind of kiss. Very gently kiss eyelids and eyebrows.Perfect for getting yourself out of trouble!

There is great excitement at Kew Gardens in London, England. A titan arum lily is about to bloom. There are two reasons why this is extraordinary.

The first is that these huge blooms only flower every seven years and it is indeed a rare spectacle of natural and the second is that these amazing plants will put out the most awful scent in order to attract beetles and other insects.

It is also known as the 'death flower', or 'stink flower'.

The Fabulous Golden Triangle Of Northern India by Louie Jerome

Last year I did something that I have dreamt of doing for many years. I visited Northern India. I have friends in New Delhi and we arranged to tour what is known as the 'Golden Triangle'. This took in Delhi itself, Jaipur with all its 'pink' buildings and the famous Taj Mahal.

The review includes the names of the hotels we stayed in because it is about a 'tour' of Northern India. The hotels are all landmark buildings in their own right, especially the Jai Mahal Palace and they formed part of the tour.

We flew to Delhi overnight from Heathrow and met up with our friends at the Taj Palace Hotel which is only ten minutes from the airport in a taxi. It is a fabulous place but we were only there for one night so weren't able to use all the facilities.

***Taj Palace Hotel, New Delhi***

The hotel stands in six acres of carefully manicured gardens and at first sight it is really imposing. Our room was spacious and really sumptuously furnished. Everything that you would expect from a top class hotel was available in the room, including a spacious, marbled bathroom, TV, internet access, hairdryer, shaver point, etc. The view from the room was excellent too. We could see across the city which was quite spectacular once it got dark.

We had dinner in the Orient Express which is a restaurant within the hotel which is modelled on the old Orient Express train. The menu offers food from every country that the train passed through. You can eat here at lunch, or dinner time every day except Sunday. I had the most delicious crab starter and followed it with beef Wellington because I do tend to be quite conservative in my eating. My partner was more adventurous and enjoyed truffles and l'escargot. The food was excellent and the service could not be faulted.

Masala Art offers traditional North Indian food and you can dine on fresh masalas and sugar cane juice if you are feeling adventurous. The chef cooks the meal in front of you. If we had stayed another night I might have been persuaded to sample this.

Outside dining is also available but there was a slightly cool wind when we arrived so we opted for the comfort of the Orient Express.

Other facilities in the hotel include laundry, fitness centre, car hire, currency exchange, beauty salon and even laptop hire which pleased my other half.

***Sightseeing in Delhi***

Our first tour was a quick look around the architecture designed by Sir Edward Lutyens. He designed the Rajpath which is a boulevard lined with ponds, trees and lawns and the India Gate, which is India's largest war memorial.

Other things to see, even with limited time are the beautiful Rashtrapti Bhavan which is the Presidential Palace (also designed by Lutyens) and Parliament House.

Don't miss the Qutub Minar which is listed by UNESCO as a world heritage site and is home to the tallest brick minaret in the world.

The Red Fort is a must see as well. It was built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahran in the 1600's as the centre of his planned, new capital city, Shahjahranabad. Not far from here is the sixteenth century tomb of Humayan which was the inspiration for the Taj Mahal.

Next stop: Agra for a couple of nights at the Taj View Hotel.

***The Taj View Hotel.***

Our next stop was the Taj View Hotel in Agra. Everyone in our group was really excited because we planned to get up really early and see the sunrise at the Taj Mahal.

The hotel itself was not of the same standard as the previous one we had stayed at but I really had no complaints. The meal we had in the Jhankhar Restaurant was excellent but I much preferred the relaxed atmosphere of the hotel coffee shop. Service was excellent and the staff were friendly and helpful. When we arrived we were told about all the hotel facilities, including a beautiful outdoor pool and shown to our room which was bright, clean, well furnished and very comfortable.

We were a bit disappointed because we didn't get a room with a view of the Taj Mahal but we were told by another guest that you have to ask for a 4th floor room and pay a supplement if you want a good view.

***Taj Mahal***

The next morning we all waiting in anticipation for sunrise at the Taj. 20,000 craftsmen worked for 20 years to build this memorial for the Emperor Shah Jahan, which honoured his favourite queen, Mumtaz.

The building is a strange and exotic blend of Hindu, Mughal and Persian architecture . The beautiful marble dome which seemed to have a pink hue at sunrise and the tall minarets are like something from a fairytale book.

***The Red Fort***

This huge sixteenth century construction has a very unhappy history. Shah Jahan was imprisoned here within the towers, with a view of the Taj Mahal, so that he looked upon the last resting place of his beloved Queen, Mumtaz.

He was in fact imprisoned by his youngest son who staged a coup and declared himself to be the ruler and Emperor of India.

There are a number of beautiful mosques here too, and the marble Khas Mahal Palace with its carefully tended gardens is certainly not to be missed.

The whole story of Mumtaz's death and the story of how Shah Jahan was forced to look each day at the tribute he had raised to her comes to life and you can get a real feel of the place as you look at the Taj Mahal from the Red Fort.

This is an experience not to be missed and certainly a place in the world that I will not forget. On my personal list of 'wonders of the world' this comes very close to the top.

Next stop Jaipur.

***Jai Mahal Palace***

This was the third hotel of this particular chain that we stayed in. The two night stay allowed us to relax and get our breath back a little bit. I was, at this point, feeling tired with the heat and all the moving around.

The Jai Mahal Palace is surrounded by landscaped gardens, just like the other two, but this one is very central for the colourful markets and monuments of Jaipur. It is a historic palace which dates from 1745 and you get that old colonial kind of feeling throughout the hotel, even in the rooms.

Furnishings are opulent and luxurious with silks, miniature paintings, colonial style furniture , really beautifully crafted bathrooms and, in contrast, all mod cons including internet access, telephone, etc.

Staying in this hotel was certainly an experience in its own right. You could easily imagine it as a Maharajah's palace.

***The Amber Fort***

Up in the rugged hills, just outside Jaipur is the Amber Fort. It was a lot cooler and fresher up there and it was a welcome change.

This fort which stands above Amber, was built by Raj Man Singh is 1592 despite its rough and rugged looking exterior, this building has a richly designed interior which is a mixture of Hindu and Mughal architectural styles. The interior walls are decorated with precious stones, paintings, decorative inlaid panels and the ceilings are literally fabulous with their mirrors and intricate carvings.

***Other Things to See in Jaipur***

In Jaipur itself there is an impressive Royal Observatory and the Maharajah's Palace which takes up one seventh of the walled city of Jaipur. This maze of gardens, courtyards, and buildings is certainly worth exploring.

The Hawa Mahal, Palace of the Winds, is five storeys high and has a strangely pyramidal front with screened windows, domes and spires. This red sandstone building was used by ladies of the court so that they could watch what was happening in the bazaars below without being seen themselves.

***Home Again and Verdict***

Unfortunately that was all we had time for. The only regret that I had about this holiday was that seven days was not enough. It all felt a bit rushed and by the time we got back to Delhi and the Taj Palace Hotel, I was feeling very tired. By the time we got on the plane I had really had enough.

I would love to go back for a couple of weeks and retrace our footsteps but spend longer exploring the places we visited. Jaipur was my favourite and I would have liked to wander round the Hawa Mahal for longer and to have been able to inspect the bazaars a little more closely.

Would I do it again? Yes, please, I'll pack my bag now.

If you want a real adventure but you want to stay in luxurious hotels too, this is the place to go. It won't break the bank, as luxury tours go as it cost just under £2000 for the two of us. This might seem a lot but all our meals were catered for, we had the best of accommodation and transport between places in a car, rather than a coach. I thought it was excellent value for money and would suit adults and older children but it isn't a holiday for the little ones.

When a mother cormorant decides that her fledglings are old enough to leave their nest, so completely dismantles the nest to make sure that they cannot return and flies off elsewhere.

A bald eagle can carry something as heavy as a young deer in its talons. Its nest cam have a width as great as 3 metres, or ten feet, with a depth of 3.65 metres, or 12 feet.

I’ve just finished reading Glynis Smy’s poetry collection, ‘From My Heart Inside My Head,’ It’s a good looking book with a variety of verse to suit many different tastes and moods.

I particularly enjoyed the ones about the Island of Cyprus because I have a very special affinity with the place. I have no idea why that should be, but it captivated me the first time I went there.

Glynis’ book is a kind of nostalgic reminder for me.

The Launch Of The Robot Fish

All around the coast of Spain, huge robotic fish will soon be let loose. Scientists are using this shoal of robotic fish to monitor water quality around the port of Gijon.

The fish are modelled on carp and cost $29,000 each to make. They are equipped with tiny electronic sensors that are able to measure the quantities of certain materials in the water.

Each one is five feet long and can swim at 4 feet per second and will be ready to use next year.

I hate the taste and the smell of beer, especially on some else's breath. I'm more of a red wine, and brandy girl myself, but I don't usually put them in the same glass.

Some people find it difficult to believe that other people don't like beer. They think it's quite strange and a little bit weird, but not as weird as just collecting the labels.

Packs of half wild dogs roam the streets in search of food, while MacDonalds sees a long queue of people forming at its door to sample the delights this western cuisine, (if it can be called that).
